PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a file recording and reproducing method which has high memory use efficinecy. SOLUTION: A file of arbitrary recording length Ln1 is recorded from an arbitrary position ad10 of a memory part Mem1 to form a cluster UC1, data recording position information CAdT showing the recording position of the cluster UC1 is recorded from a specific position adC, and pieces of protect information PDr and PDw by clusters are recorded at an arbitrary position adPL; and protect recording position information PAdT showing the recording position of the protect information is recorded at a specific position adD, a cluster is determined according to the data recording position information CAdT when a read is made, and the position information of the protect information is obtained from the protect recording position information PAdT to read the protect information. After it is confirmed that the cluster can be read according to the protect information PDr, a desirable file is read out of the cluster of interest.
