PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader capable of preventing the generation of color slippage on a reading position in a subscanning direction due to differences in the afterglow characteristics of fluorescent materials of respective colors in a white light source for irradiating an original. SOLUTION: The image reader for reading out an image by forming images of an original on plural line sensors through an image forming optical system is provided with an original irradiating fluorescent lamp 1 having afterglow characteristics respectively different in accordance with respective colors corresponding to plural reading colors of plural line sensors, a light quantity controller 14 for determining the control value of the lamp 1 so that the center of gravity of light emission quantity in the time base direction for one-charge accumulation time coincides with almost the center of the one-charge accumulation time, an inverter 15 for controlling the lamp 1 on the basis of the control value determined by the controller 14, and a shading correction part 200 for measuring shading and setting up a shading correction value. The controller 14 updates the control value for controlling the lamp 1 in each shading measuring operation. |
