PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly emit a light onto an entire face of an original by converting a reflected light from the original into a signal charge, storing the charges and giving a prescribed relation between an alternate period of the reflected light and the charge storage time. SOLUTION: An AC light source outputs an emitted light with a prescribed period (AC period) to an original. Furthermore, a CCD image sensor applies photoelectric conversion to a reflected light from the original into signal charges, stores the charges, and outputs externally the stored signal charges at each prescribed time (charge storage time). In this case, a multiple of n (n is a natural number) of the AC period of the reflected light is made coincident with the charge storage time. Thus, the quantity of the reflected light received by the CCD image sensor for the charge storage time is always constant. Thus, the light can uniformly be emitted to the entire surface of the original and in the case that the signal charges are outputted to an external image reproduction device, where the signal charges are reproduced, contents of the reproduced image of the original can sufficiently be read.
