<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable length coded data error protecting method and a device capable of efficiently protecting data from errors while maintaining a simple configuration in transmission of variable length coded data. SOLUTION: This device comprises a variable length encoding part 102 which performs variable length coding processing of input data and generates variable length code word data, a block dividing part 104 dividing the variable length code word data in each transmission block data of a prescribed size, a significant code word deciding part 107a deciding the existence/absence of data having high significance in the variable length code word data, a significant code word position information storing part 107b temporarily storing the positional information of a significant code word when the significant code word exists in the variable length code word data as a result of decision of the significant code word deciding part, and a dummy data inserting part 106 inserting dummy data as many as the number of prescribed bits so as to arrange variable length code word data having high significance at the front of a transmission block data according to the positional information of the significant code word when data having high significance exists in the significant length code word.</p> |
