PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct highly efficient broadband inter-LAN connection with giga bit/Ethernet signals, to decrease number of required optical paths, to reduce transmission cost, and to accommodate a LAN with a private address not needing a conversion work of a layer 2 frame. SOLUTION: A decoder 111 that conducts 8B10B code conversion decodes giga bit/Ethernet signals at a transmission rate of 1.25 Gbps used by a giga bit/Ethernet LAN into the giga bit/Ethernet signal at the transmission rate of 1 Gbps and a plurality of the decoded giga bit/Ethernet signals are multiplexed on a payload area of an optical path signal in time division.
