PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture processor executing gamut mapping by which a high contrast and clear output picture is obtained and to provide a picture processing method. SOLUTION: A gamut mapping part 206 maps a monitor color reproduction area to an intermediate mapping color reproduction area. A color area enlargement correction part 208 refers to the intermediate mapping color reproduction area and a printer color reproduction area and maps the intermediate mapping color reproduction area to the printer color reproduction area. An LUT generation part 209 refers to a correspondence relation between the monitor color reproduction area and the mapping result of the color area enlargement correction part 208, RGB data by which a prescribed color is obtained on a monitor and CMYK data by which the prescribed color is obtained on a printer, generates LUT for converting RGB data into CMYK data and stores it into RAM 202. An interpolation unit 203 calculates CMYK data which is to be outputted to RGB data by an interpolation operation using LUT stored in RAM 202.
