PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture processing unit, a moving a picture processing method that are provided with a function of adding an index to still picture information configuring recorded moving picture information and with a function of displaying the still picture information to which this index is added and character information to specify the still picture information, and can easily discriminate contents of the moving picture information with the index added thereto from the still picture information and the character information that are displayed, and to provide a storage medium. SOLUTION: A frame number of image information is read from index data (step S1), the image information corresponding to the frame number is extracted from, e.g. a hard disk unit (step S2), character information corresponding to the frame number is extracted by retrieving a table TBL (step S3), a reproduction time of this frame number is calculated (step S4), and a display means displays the image information, the character information and the reproduction time acquired in this way as a list (step S5). This character information expresses contents of the corresponding image information and the display means displays the character information as above together with the corresponding image information at the same time.
