<p>A material-economizing, tamper-evident seal is disclosed having dual, non-contiguous, symmetrically placed, reusable catches (20, 200, 320) and a seal-element (10, 310) with a tear-off identification tag (11, 411). Once a seal has been broken, its replacement is effected by first tearing off its identification tag, and then by passing the remainder of the seal through one of the catches. A replacement seal having its own identification tag may thereafter be engaged with both of the catches. The tear-off tag feature is effected by an abscission bead, which may take one of several forms, as, for example, a row of perforations (41-42; 441-442). Whereas the seal-element preferably is moulded out of a weak thermoplastic material, such as polypropylene, the catches are moulded out of a relatively much-stronger material, such as polycarbonate or nylon. The catches may be provided with a clasp-like feature by means of which they may be attached easily to a variety of external objects.</p> |
