PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for bonding labels to containers which has improved any one of machining characteristics such as coating patterns to labels, easy adjustability of a scraper, and longevity of the scraper as well as excellent initial adhesion. SOLUTION: Labels are bonded to containers with the use of a label water- based adhesive comprising (A) a casein and (B) a viscosity index modifier and having a viscosity index (TI) of 0.5-0.8. Component (B) is preferably at least one member selected from a polyvinyl acetate, an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, and an acrylic resin and a wheat protein, a soybean protein, a modified soybean protein, starch and the like. This method is particularly suitable for a pallet transfer type rotary labeler and the like, and labels can be bonded to containers at a high speed by using an appropriate space of a conventionally employed scraper which is hard to cause troubles.
