MALTITOL SPHERICAL GRANULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject low-caloric spherical granule having a high solubility in water and capable of exhibiting a smooth feeling of dissolution in the mouth and a sufficient hardness without causing dental caries by using a high-purity maltitol as a raw material. SOLUTION: This spherical granule is formed by coating the periphery of a core containing maltitol with a maltitol layer and the content of the maltitol is >=93.5 wt.%, preferably >=96.0 wt.% and especially preferably >=98.0 wt.% based on the solid. (A) The core containing the maltitol, (B) an aqueous solution of the malitol mainly used as a binder and (C) a powder of the maltitol used as an excipinet of a coating layer are preferably used as a raw material and the maltitol layer is preferably formed by spraying the component B on the component A or sprinkling the component C on the component A while spraying the component B to obtain the objective spherical granule. The spherical granule is useful as an excipient of foods or medicines and a sweetener.
