PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a vinyl ester-based resin excellent in release stability and transparency of the aqueous solution and effective for disperse auxiliary for suspension polymerization of a vinyl-based compound. SOLUTION: When producing this vinyl ester-based resin, an azo-based polymerization initiator having carboxyl group at the end, preferably 4,4'-azobis-4- cyanovaleric acid or dimethyl-2,2'-azobisisobutylate is used as a polymerization initiator.
