PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bond functional groups corresponding to object materials and to further enable sufficient amounts of the functional groups to bond by making organic molecules have the functional groups as graft chains in an adsorbing material comprising a substrate made from inorganic materials and the organic molecules having alkyl chains bonded to the substrate. SOLUTION: After organic molecules 2 are bonded to a substrate 1, many graft chains 3 are formed to the organic molecules 2. A graft polymerization process is used for grafting; namely, free radicals are generated by irradiating the organic molecules 2 with radiation and the graft chains 3 are grafted to be polymerized to the free radicals as initiation points. After the graft chains 3 are formed to the organic molecules 2, functional groups 4 are introduced to the end of the graft chains 3. As the functional groups 4, for example, sulfo groups, carboxy groups or the like are used. The functional groups 4 are given by a vapor phase reaction. The substrate 1 is made from an inorganic material for which active carbon, silica or the like is used.
