The device comprises a drum (4) on which a reel (5) of a label support strip (2) is mounted. The strip is led through return rollers (6) above a saber (7). The strip is then wound around the saber wire (10) before rejoining through return rollers a new reel (11) on which is stored a cleared strip. The support strip is subjected to a step by step advance so as to individually present each label (3) above and at the end (13) of the saber. When in this position a suction nozzle (12) is brought into contact with the label. While maintaining the support strip in tension the saber is drawn back to ensure the pealing of the label from the strip held by the nozzle. The label is then placed on the required object. Independent claims are also included for (a) the removing device, and for (b) the application of the method.
