The system has a microphone plug, a microphone socket, a microprocessor, a store, a Karaoke processor circuit and a microswitch mounted in the microphone socket. The microprocessor (5) is connected to the Karaoke processor to provide a signal output to a loudspeaker system (9). Activation of the system is provided by inserting a the microphone plug (2) into a the microphone socket, to operate the switch (3), which has contacts coupled via a pull up resistor (R) to the microprocessor.
