PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and highly functional PLC without increasing the number of mode setting switches. SOLUTION: The state of an operation mode setting switch 10 to be turned to two or more states only in an operation setting mode is dealt as '0' or '1', an operation mode setting switch 10' is operated at a timing displayed by an operation display LED 8 and the order of the state is stored in a storage means 11-4. A PLC 7 is started by an operation mode based on the combination of the order. When the method for setting up the operation mode by one operation mode setting switch 10' and the operation display LED 8 is adopted, the operation mode can be set up even when an in-line package switch is omitted.
