PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a display device which is especially advantageous to increase brightness, enlarge a display screen in size, and display in multiple colors, etc., and is of a large type and high definition, by controlling a frequency of a sustained discharge pulse train so that a power consumption value of the display device is a desired constant value or less based on a supplied binary data. SOLUTION: Since a consumption current of a high-tension power source Vs for driving a device is made to flow as a peak current, it is converted into a voltage value of a mean current by an integrating circuit, and is converted into a digital value by an A-D converter 131, to be fetched by an arithmetic processing part 132. The arithmetic processing part 132 compares the digital value with a preset reference value, and outputs the present set value of brightness as it is from output ports (P01-06) when the digital value is lower than the reference value, and decreases the present brightness value to operate an APC function when the digital value is higher than the reference value. A brightness control circuit 14 performs a variable control of the number of sustained pulses (discharge frequency), and performs a brightness control (power consumption control) of the whole screen based on a control signal for the set value of brightness. |
