PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-cost laminated liquid crystal optical modulation element which enables full-color display and in which each cell can be driven at an equal voltage. SOLUTION: The element is a full-color liquid crystal display element having three liquid crystalline display cells 110R, 110G, 110B laminated. In each cell, a liquid crystal composition 17 containing a liquid crystal compound and an additive is sealed. The liquid crystal composition 17 in each cell reflects light at a specified wavelength as the peak wavelength to display a full-color image. In order to make the driving voltage of each cell equal, dielectric anisotropy of each liquid crystal composition and thickness of a liquid crystal layer and/or thickness of a protective film are controlled.
