PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens the distortion aberration of which is completely compensated and the diameter of the front lens of which is small. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is provided with three lens groups, that is, a 1st lens group LG1 having negative refractive power, a 2nd lens group LG2 having positive refractive power and a 3rd lens group LG3 including at least one aspherical surface in order from an object side, and variable power is performed by moving the 1st and the 2nd lens groups in an optical axis direction. It satisfies conditions,|P3/PW|<0.03 and 0.05<BW/LW<0.25. Provided that P3 means the refractive power of the 3rd lens group, PW means the refractive power of an entire system at a wide-angle end, BW means a distance in the optical axis direction from the surface on an image side to the image-formation surface of the 3rd lens group at the wide-angle end and LW means the entire length of the lens at the wide-angle end.
