PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid occurrence of a situation, in which beginning and ending video of each scene are lost, by generating reference signals to measure an amount of time lag of a slave and compensating for beginning and ending time of an editing program based on the amount of time lag measured by comparing the original reference signals with the reference signals that are recorded and reproduced by the slave. SOLUTION: When an automatic compensation starting switch 3 is pressed, a microcomputer 4 of a master (an editing function incorporated reproducing device) 1 transmits REC(recording) signals and reference signals to a slave 2 from an infrared ray generator 5 and a reference signal generator 6. Having passed a prescribed time, the microcomputer 4 transmits a STOP signal, at the same time stops the transmission of the reference signals and transmits a take-up signal. Then, a PLAY signal is transmitted and a signal discriminating device 7 is activated. The device 7 computes compensating amount data to prevent occurrence of omission of information on beginning and ending portions of the information signals of the master 1 in recording in the slave 2 side based on the reproducing signals from the slave 2 and transmits the data to the microcomputer 4.
