PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure detection of the terminated condition of a discharge lamp, if used at different wattage. SOLUTION: A discharge lamp lighting device includes a both-end voltage detection circuit 7 for detecting the both-end voltage of a discharge lamp La, a positive voltage detection circuit 8 for detecting the positive voltage of the discharge lamp La, and a negative voltage detection circuit 9 for detecting the negative voltage of the discharge lamp La. It also has a judging means (comparison circuit 10) far comparing the positive voltage of the discharge lamp La detected by the positive voltage detection circuit 8 with the negative voltage of the discharge lamp La detected by the negative voltage detection circuit 9 to judge a single-side emissionless if a different between both of them exceeds a preset value and to judge a both-side emissionless if a both-end voltage value detected by the both-end voltage detection circuit 7 exceeds a preset value. |
