PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an information regarding a bookbinding history into a book in a form not observed by eyes and enable one to refer to it as needed by providing a printing quality control code print on a binding portion on a rear surface of a cover. SOLUTION: Covers 1 stacked in a guide 2 are conveyed onto a cover feeder side guard 4 by an operation of a rotor 3, and sequentially supplied to an adhering unit. In this case, a rotary encoder 5 is installed at the rotor 3, and an ink jet printer 6 is provided above the cover conveying on the guard 4. Operations of an ink supply unit 12 and the printer 6 are controlled based on information from the encoder 5 and a sensor 9 by a printer head controller 13, and a print quality control code having the date of manufacture (numeric characters), a manufacturing place (alphabetic characters), and manufacturing machine (alphanumeric characters) is printed on a binding portion of a rear surface of the cover 1. Thereafter, the cover is adhered to printing sheets and executed through a cutting step or the like to complete its bookbinding.
