Coated sintered carbide cutting element has a hard coating with a layer selected from titanium carbide, titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride, titanium carboxide, aluminum oxide or an aluminum oxide-zirconium oxide composite material, in which the zinc oxide phases are dispersed around the ground aluminum oxide phases. The hard coating is provided with an outer layer made of titanium oxide of formula: TiOw (where, w = 1.20-1.90). Preferred Features: The outer layer has a thickness of 0.1-3 microns m. The hard coating has a thickness of 3-30 microns m.
