<p>Novel chimeric genes and methods for the control of expression of nucleic acid sequences in plant plastids are described in the instant invention. Multiple genes or polycistronic units are expressed using upstream elements of plastid genes naturally found in divergent orientation. These upstream elements may be derived from sequences found in the native plastid genome of the same plant, or preferably from the plastid genome of a different plant species having sequence identity of less than 90 %.</p> |
