The invention concerns a method and a device for blow forming containers made of thermoplastic material. The method consists in: first bringing the preforms (1) used to the desired temperature and then forming them into containers in at least a blowing station zone (3); maintaining the moulds used to define the contour of said containers with mould carriers; inside each blowing station (3), simultaneously forming at least two blanks into containers; positioning the preforms (1) such that, when they are inserted into the blowing station (3), they take up a position which is different from that which they occupy during the blowing process; modifying the distance separating the preforms (1) from each other while they are being transported from their insertion into the blowing station (3) up to their blowing position; further to said first distance modification, carrying out a second modification of the distance separating two successive preforms (1).
