<p>The contacts are mounted on parallel but separated surfaces providing ready operation without friction. The vehicle steering column has on its upper surface two series of electrical contacts (112, 114) with connection to the wiring system of the vehicle. The steering wheel carries a corresponding set of contacts (120) on a surface which is parallel to the top of the column, but separated from it in normal operation. The steering wheel may thus turn relative to the column without these contacts touching. In the event of deployment of the air bag which is mounted in the centre of the steering wheel, the second set of contacts (120) are pressed into contact with the first set, thus activating the vehicle's horn.</p> |
