PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably inspect a disk for a long time by inspecting the surface of the disk utilizing a glide check head having a surface layer formed thereon which has a surface hardness higher by a specified value or higher, than that of the disk halving a protective film having a specified hardness or higher. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk for a hard disk the surface of which is to be inspected consists of a multi-layered film having a Cr substrate 22, a magnetic layer 23, a protective layer 24 and a lubricating layer 25 laminated on a magnetic disk substrate 21 in this order. The protective layer 24 consists essentially of carbon and nitrogen, hydrogen, silicon, boron or the like is added to the layer to obtain a film halving a >=10 Gpa surface hardness. The film thickness of the protective layer 24 is, for example, 2-15 nm. And the surface of the disk can be stably inspected with reduced ware ratio of the surface layer by inspecting the surface utilizing a slider comprising a surface layer consisting essentially of carbon which has the surface hardness 3.5 times as higher as the surface hardness of the magnetic disk or higher.
