ALCOHOL-AMMONIUM NITRATE COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the explosive speed of a bullet and to drastically increase the speed of the bullet at an exit of a firing gun by utilizing a composition consisting of a mixture of alcohol and prilled ammonium nitrate as a main material. SOLUTION: In a composition consisting of a mixture of alcohol and ammonium nitrate as a main material, prilled ammonium nitrate is used as ammonium nitrate and as alcohol higher alcohol having >=8 carbon atoms can be used but preferably cheap lower alcohol such as methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol is used. The prilled ammonium nitrate has an about 0.2 wt.% water content, an about 0.70-0.80 g/ml bulk density and a particle size distribution having about 0.5 wt.% particles each having a >=2.38 mm particle size and about <=4.5 wt.% particles each having a <=0.42 mm particle size. By utilizing this composition as the firing charge, high speed firing of the bullet can be realized. In the mixture of alcohol and ammonium nitrate as a main material, the mole ratio of alcohol to ammonium nitrate is 1:2-80.
