PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal plane shutter for a camera, constituted such that a 1st blade group and a 2nd blade group are prevented from interfering with each other at a position near the pivotally attached parts of respective arms in terms of actuation. SOLUTION: A space between a shutter base plate 1 and an auxiliary base plate 46 are partitioned by an intermediate plate 36, so as to form the blade chamber of the 1st blade group and that of the 2nd blade group. Then, two arms of the 1st blade group are pivotally attached to shaft 1r and 1s, and two arms of the 2nd blade group are pivotally attached to shafts 1t and 1u. Additionally, a well-known backlash gathering spring is laid between the arms, attached pivotally to the shaft 1s and 1u. Conventionally, the actuation plane area of the arm part of the backlash gathering spring is not partitioned by the intermediate plate. However, extended parts 36g, 36h and 36i are formed at the plate 36 and prevented from being brought into contact with the coil part of the backlash gathering spring, so as to partition the area. Thus, the blade groups are prevented from interfering with each other in that area.
