PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically extract the name of a hub to be connected by a terminal equipment at connection of the hub by providing the hub device with a switching hub for transmitting a port number and the name of the hub itself to terminal equipment, and the terminal equipment for receiving the port number of the port connected to the switching hub and the name of the switching hub by a first link pulse burst signal and storing the received signal. SOLUTION: Port numbers included in a hub 1 and a hub name set up previously by a user are stored in plural first link pulse(FLP) burst signals 11 sent from the hub 1. These port numbers consist of one byte and the hub name consists of eight bytes. At the receipt of the FLP burst signal 11 including this information by units of eight bits, a control part in terminal equipment 6 extracts significant information of eight bits from the information and successively stores the extracted information in a hub information register. After receiving all of the port numbers (1 byte) and the hub name information (8 bytes), auto-negotiation processing ended. |
