The swimming apparatus (1) is for a person partly lying in the water and comprises an operable frame (2), a swim body (3) together with hand grips (4) at the front end, a forward drive (6) and foot supports (7) at the rear end (8). The forward drive is a small ship's propeller (9). Also involved in the drive process is a pedal drive (12) and an electric motor (15) which can be switched on. The coupling (10) between the pedal drive and the forward drive is by cone wheels and/or toothed belts.
