A process for producing a target substance by using a microorganism which comprises culturing the microorganism in a medium, thus producing and accumulating the target substance in the medium and collecting the target substance, wherein a variant or a recombinant strain having variation or deletion of sigma factor, which acts specifically in the stationary phase, is employed as the microorganism so as to improve the productivity of the target substance.
