FILTER FOR USE WITH AN ELECTROGRAPHIC IMAGING SYSTEM AND SENSING MECHANISM FOR SUCH FILTER

A filter assembly (14) for an electrographic imaging system (10) is disclosed. The filter assembly reduces emissions of a carrier vapor (82) produced during operation of the electrographic imaging system. The filter assembly includes a filter housing (100) having a housing inlet (108) at a first end (106), for receiving the carrier vapor, and an open second end (107). A replaceable filter cartridge (102) is removably insertable into the filter housing through the second open end. The replaceable filter cartridge includes a cartridge body (124) having a cartridge inlet (138) at a first end (126) and a cartridge outlet (129) at a second end (128). The cartridge inlet receives the carrier vapor from the housing inlet. A scavenging substance (158) is positioned within the cartridge body between the cartridge inlet and the cartridge outlet. The scavenging substance receives the carrier vapor from the cartridge inlet and at least partially absorbs the carrier vapor to discharge a reduced emissions carrier vapor (160) from the cartridge outlet. The filter assembly further includes a sensing mechanism (104) coupled to the replaceable filter cartridge for determining when the replaceable filter cartridge requires replacement.
