The invention relates to a method of preparing brine for producing alkali halide(s). The inventive method is characterized by (a) precipitating bivalent cations from the brine by one or more precipitation steps, (b) subjecting the brine pre-treated according to (a) to a single-effect or multiple-effect evaporation, (c) separating the mother liquor produced by (b) into the retentate and the permeate by nanofiltration, and (d) using the retentate as a precipitating agent in (a). The invention also relates to (an) alkali halide(s) that is/are obtained by a method that comprises the above-mentioned process steps (a) to (d).
