<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing artificial lightweight aggregate at low cost using a simple apparatus/equipment, and to obtain such artificial lightweight aggregate by the above-mentioned method. SOLUTION: This method for producing artificial lightweight aggregate comprises mixing a siliceous material, a calcareous material, and as necessary calcium sulfate together, spraying the resultant mixture with water while rolling the mixture to effect granulation, and subjecting the mixture thus sprayed with water to high-pressure steam curing, or normal-pressure steam curing followed by high-pressure steam curing; wherein the amounts of cement and quicklime and/or slaked lime as the whole calcareous material are 1-50 wt.% and 1-50 wt.% on a CaO basis, based on the above mixture, respectively, and the amount of the calcium sulfate 0.5-10 wt.% on a CaSO4 basis. The other objective artificial lightweight aggregate obtained by the method described above has an absolute dry specific gravity of >=1.0 but <2.0 and uniaxial compressive breaking strength of >=10 kgf.</p> |
