PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sheet material curled at its point from being caught by a side surface of a groove and to improve the feeding accuracy in a device comprising a means for detecting a width position of the sheet material, and the groove capable of moving the detecting means inside thereof, by inclining the groove by a predetermined angle with respect to the width direction. SOLUTION: The skew feeding of a sheet S to be fed is corrected by allowing tae sheet S to be collided with a pair of resist rollers 110. A motor is driven, and a lateral resist sensor 1 is moved along a sensor groove 2 to detect a front side end of the sheet S. On this occasion, the sensor groove 2 is inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to the feeding direction of the sheet S. Accordingly the dropped sheet S can be raised onto a sheet guide 137 again even when the sheet S having a curled point is dropped into the sensor groove 2, which prevents the paper jamming. The sensor groove 2 is directed from an upstream side to a downstream side in the feeding direction of the sheet S, and inclined within a range of an angle of 0 deg.-90 deg. from the outside to the inside in the width direction.
