CONSTITUTION:An electronic controller 110 releases the lock-up clutch of a fluid type torque converter when a vehicle is applied with brake at a car speed less than a prescribed speed or when the vehicle is applied with brake sharply. In this case, the control hydraulic pressure supplied from a port 76 is lowered by increasing the electric current supplied to the electromagnetic coil 84 of a linear solenoid valve 70, and the converter hydraulic pressure of a secondary regulator valve 40 is lowered, together with the line hydraulic pressure of a primary regulator valve 20, and the engagement force of the lock-up clutch is lowered in a moment according to the pressure propagation speed, and a slip state is generated. Accordingly, even if the time lag is generated before the lock-up clutch is actually released, the generation of engine stall can be prevented.
