PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce the subject compounds useful as an intermediate, etc. for photoresist materials by using an enzyme derived from a microorganism of the genus Absidia or the genus Rhizopus and having the ability to hydroxylate adamantane esters. SOLUTION: An enzyme derived from a microorganism of the genus Absidia (e.g. Absidia cylindrospora IFO4000 strain) or a microorganism of the genus Rhizopus (e.g. Rhizopus stolonifer var. stolonifer IFO6188 strain) and having the ability to act on adamantane esters represented by formula I and produce monohydroxyadamantane esters represented by formula II is made to act on the adamantane esters represented by formula I to thereby efficiently produce the objective monohydroxyadamantane esters represented by formula II and useful as an intermediate, etc., for photoresist materials.
