PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which can display an image of high quality without causing any irregular brightness or flare. SOLUTION: The illumination light from a light source 30 is branched by passing through an optical system 46, and further branched through optical fibers 41, 44 into three beams, introduced into connectors 47 on the outer surface 22c of an upper frame 22 and supplied to the inside of the upper frame 22. The illumination light supplied to the inside of the upper frame 22 passes through the inner face 22e to enter the end face 10a of a display panel 10 into the inside of the panel 10 to illuminate a polymer dispersion type liquid crystal 13. When no electric field is applied on the display segment 13a, the segment is in a diffusing state to display a white portion by the illumination light.
