PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use one fluorescent lamp in place of a plurality of fluorescent lamps. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp is provided with an airtight container 2 having a sealed inner space 1 that has a phosphor layer on the inner periphery and having bent parts 3 and at least two or more linear parts 4. A rare gas is sealed in the inner space 1 in the airtight container 2. A pair of electrodes 8 is disposed only on the outer periphery of the linear parts 4 of the airtight container 2 along the linear parts 4. Thereby, the airtight container 2 can be formed in a desired shape having the bent parts 3 and at least the two linear parts 4. For example, in the case of a linear fluorescent lamp when a plurality of fluorescent lamps is needed, one fluorescent lamp 9 can serve as the plurality of fluorescent lamps by combining the linear parts 4 and the bent parts 3. In addition, the electrodes 8 are disposed only on the linear parts 4 so that the electrodes 8 can easily be formed by techniques of bonding, etc.
