PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically register an electronic mail address and to inform an opposite party that this is a facsimile machine can send/receive an electronic mail. SOLUTION: This facsimile machine that receives an electronic mail from a server terminal of the Internet connected to a public communication line stores an electronic mail address for itself to receive an electronic mail, attaches the stored electronic mail address to a signal that is communicated before transmission/reception of facsimile image data at facsimile transmission reception and transmits the resulting signal to an opposite terminal and recognizes an electronic mail address of the opposite terminal received from the opposite terminal prior to transmission reception of the facsimile image data (S502). The facsimile machine registers the electronic mail address received from the opposite terminal, corresponding to a prescribed abbreviated dialing number (S504-S506, S508), and displays the abbreviation number and the registered electronic mail address at registration (S507, S509).
