PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To meter and distribute primary air and secondary air to the upper stream area and the downstream area of a combustion chamber to promote efficient combustion even under the high load condition and the low load condition of an engine. SOLUTION: A combustor for a gas turbine comprises a combustion chamber installed in an air feed manifold 1; a burner head 2 having a fuel injector; a primary air inlet partitioned between a burner head and the upper stream end of the combustion chamber; a secondary air inlet situated downstream from the primary air inlet; and a means to vary a flow of air through the primary air inlet and the secondary air inlet. A combustion chamber consists of a fixed downstream part 4 and a telescopically movable upper moving stream part 3. When the upper stream part is moved toward the burner head, the primary air inlet is limited and the secondary air inlet is released. When the upper stream part is moved in a direction in which it is separated away from the burner head, a primary air inlet is released and the secondary air inlet is limited.
