NETWORK SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT AND POWER SUPPLY CONTROL METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress consumption of useless power of equipment not in use without causing hindrance to a network configuration in the case that a plurality of equipment are interconnected by a specific bus such as an IEEE 1394 bus. SOLUTION: A physical layer control circuit 8 of electronic equipment acting like a host on a network in this network system monitors an operating state of a plurality of electronic equipments interconnected by the network and transmits a sleep command when this electronic equipment detects the existence of electronic equipment in an inoperative state for a prescribed time or over. A physical layer control circuit 8 of the electronic equipment in the inoperative state receives the sleep command to give an instruction of supply of power only to its physical layer to its power supply control circuit 6 so as to switch the inoperative state into the power saving state. Thus, useless power consumption is suppressed without causing hindrance to the network configuration.
