PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an operation stopping time as much as possible and to obtain a stable heat removing amount by setting a maximum mean roughness on a surface of a plate to a specific value or less. SOLUTION: This plate type heat exchanger comprises a body frame 1 and a plate 2 of a heat transfer surface. As the plate 2, a stainless steel, titanium, a nickel-base alloy or the like is used so as to prevent a corrosion due to a sulfuric acid, pitting or the like due to sea water or the like. Various types of these materials exist according to material makers, and its quality is not particularly limited except a mill sheet for guaranteeing its component. Accordingly, except the case that there is a protrusion on its surface, the roughness of the surface of the plate is generally different depending upon a rolled state or a manufacturing process when the plate is worked by the maker. Here, in any case of the material, even when the surface roughness is maximum, it is smoothly finished by a method such as buffing or the like until its mean roughness value becomes 1μm or less or desirably 0.5μm or less and used.
