PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device (proximate transfer device) having a charge imparting member arranged separately from a body to be transferred by a specified distance so that a toner image may be transferred from a toner image carrier to the body to be transferred, capable of performing uniform transfer even when a gap between the body to be transferred and the charge imparting member is somewhat fluctuated and capable of restraining the scattering of toner at the time of separating the body to be transferred from the body to be transferred in comparison with that in the conventional manner. SOLUTION: In this transfer device D1, the charge imparting member 12 is arranged separately from the back surface 82 of a recording sheet by the specified distance, and next voltage is applied to the member 12. In the device D1, oscillating voltage whose peak-to-peak voltage V is twice or more as high as discharge start voltage is applied to the member 12. Desirably, power P satisfying relation (P/(VS×L)) >=60[J/m2] is supplied to the member 12. VS[m/sec] is the moving speed of the recording sheet and L[m] is the effective discharge width of the member 12 in the rotary shaft line direction of a photoreceptor 91.
