The method involves using a closed regulation loop formed from an internal regulation loop and an outer regulation loop, to regulate the transmitting power according to, at least a current signal level to interference level value (SIRist) and a current transmission error rate (CRCist). The outer regulation loop is formed from a primary outer regulation loop which adjusts a nominal signal level to interference level value (SIRsoll) to a quality indicator (QIIst), and a secondary outer regulation loop which adjusts a nominal value of the quality indicator to the transmission error rate. The quality indicator is preferably measured at the output of a channel decoder (5) of a radio station (Node B, UE) of the radio communications system.
