The cask pump has a tubular pump housing (1) enclosing a rotor shaft (3) supported by a support pipe (2) and coupled to an electric pump motor for driving a pump rotor, allowing liquid to be pumped from an annular entry opening (8) at the bottom of the pump housing to an annular channel at its top end. The end of the rotor shaft is fitted with a sealing cone (10) for closing the entry opening upon axial movement of the rotor shaft relative to the pump housing, to bring a groove (13) in the outside surface of the sealing cone into engagement with the edge (14) of the entry opening.
