PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the consumption of oil and to facilitate the process of a piston ring by reducing the blow-off of combustion gas from a combustion chamber into a crank chamber, that is, by suitably reducing the so-called blow-by gas and preventing the oil from entering the combustion chamber. SOLUTION: A piston ring has a double joint type abutment in which a protrusion 4 having a triangular cross-sectional shape and extending along the outer peripheral surface of the piston ring, circumferentially from the one side surface thereof is formed being projected from one of abutment faces, and a recess 8 accommodating the protrusion 4 is formed being extended inward from the other of the abutment end faces. The protrusion 4 and the recess 8 are formed so that the mating planar surfaces of the protrusion 4 and the recess 8 are parallel with each other, and define an slant gap having 0.03 to 0.15 m.
