PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in improved reaction selectivity in a high yield at a high production speed by reacting an alkyl halide with powdered silicon in the presence of an effective amount of a catalyst and an effective amount of a cocatalyst containing copper, etc. SOLUTION: (C) An alkyl halide preferably being methyl chloride is reacted with (D) powdered silicon in the presence of (A) an effective amount of a catalyst and (B) an effective amount of cocatalyst containing copper and aluminum by a batch method by a reaction bed composed of a reactor such as a fixed bed reactor, etc., preferably at about 250-350 deg.C to give the objective compound (e.g. dimethyldichlorosilane, etc.). The component A preferably comprises copper, zinc and tin and preferably about 0.5-10 wt.% of copper, about 0.01-1 wt.% of zinc and about 10-100 ppm of tin based on the whole reaction bed. The component B preferably contains about 0.5-10 wt.% of copper and about 100-1,000 ppm of aluminum based on the whole reaction bed. |
