PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound, in high yield, and also in high selectivity both on an olefin basis and a (poly)alkylene glycol basis by reacting an olefin with a (poly)alkylene glycol in the presence of a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: This compound is obtained by reacting (A) an olefin with (B) 0.01-30 pts.wt., per pt.wt. of the component A, of a (poly)alkylene glycol in the presence of (C) a catalyst comprising a crystalline metallosilicate with at least part of ion-exchangeable cations substituted with bivalent or higher metal ions and alkali metal ions. It is desirable that the crystalline metallosilicate is such one as to be pref. a crystalline aluminosilicate generally called zeolite, or a crystalline metallosilicate with an atom such as Cu, Mn or Cr introduced into the crystal lattice instead of the Al atom of a crystalline aluminosilicate. |
