摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an interference of operation from occurring at the time of speed change when the structure of an automatic transmission is simplified by combining, with each other, a part of each of two frictional engagement devices of the automatic transmission. SOLUTION: This frictional engagement device for speed change of an automatic transmission is formed so that a second member operating as one of two input/output members rotated relatively each other is engaged with a first member containing first and second frictional engagement devices setting a speed change gear of the automatic transmission by switching between an engagement and a disengagement and operating as one of two input/output members rotated relatively each other of the first frictional engagement device 42, C3 in the relation of torque transmission, and the first and second frictional engagement devices are combined so that they act as pistons pressing the frictional engagement plates of the first frictional engagement device 42, C3. One of two frictional engagement devices, engaged partly, is engaged only in reverse movement, and the other is not engaged in forward first gear or forward second gear.</p>
